Storage Tips

  • Storing business records or inventory: Label every box and stack them in aisles to make future access easy.
  • Treat wood surfaces and wrap in a protective cover before storing.
  • Cover mattresses and store them flat and level.
  • Elevate furniture on boards or pallets.
  • To save space, store tabletops and sofas on end. Detach table legs.
  • Wrap delicate items in bubble wrap or paper, then tuck in a furniture drawer. If delicates must be boxed, label it FRAGILE.
  • When packing small objects in boxes, fill them completely (including stuffing open spaces with paper) so the boxes won't collapse when stacked.
  • Drain all fluids from lawn and garden equipment.
  • Pack hoes, shovels, and rakes upright in a trash can.
  • Use a wardrobe box to store delicate fabrics or heirloom apparel. If possible, dehumidify to prevent mildew.
  • Stuff bulky items, like blankets, in the cavities of major appliances.
  • Never store combustibles (paint/chemicals) or perishable food.
